Diatomaceous earth has a large specific surface area, strong adsorption capacity, low Thermodynamic activity, and does not have chemical reactions with oils and other chemicals. It has become the most widely used decolorizing agent for edible oil. The increase of diatomaceous earth in the decolorization process is determined according to the color of oils and the requirements and specifications for product oil. For example, the internal control specifications for small package oil are higher than those for selling bulk oil, and the amount of clay used in the decolorization process is slightly more. The general amount of decolorization used is 2-5% of the oil weight. The more diatomaceous earth is added, the better the decolorization effect. However, excessive increase can also lead to a decrease in the yield of finished oil, as diatomaceous earth also adsorbs some oils along with pigments, increasing refining consumption and costs. Generally, the oil content of waste clay in refining workshops is generally 20% -25%. At present, a food decolorizer widely used by enterprises.
